PMBOK 7 – Gateway to a New Era

Abstract:

PMI Assigned PDU Claim Code : 4951GQXFYC

1 Technical PDU

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is introducing Project Management 7.0.  This new release is much more than just a new iteration of the previous release, it is a gateway into a new paradigm of delivering value through projects and programs.  Using the massive Project Management Body of Knowledge, 7.0 focuses on principles and performance domains to deliver value for the Organization.

This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of Project Management 7.0 and it’s impact on your Organization.  The session will cover the Principles, Performance Domains, Methods, Models, and Artifacts of the Standard and then look at the opportunities presented to a PMO to tailor your processes to support the concepts.  Finally, we will review how the 7.0 Standard interleaves with Domains, Tasks, and Enablers of the new PMP Certification exam.

After this review, the session will then explore the tailoring opportunities and help you better understand the challenges and opportunities present to the PMO for adoption and implementation.   This standard indeed represents a gateway for the PMO to deliver value.  This transformation through this gateway will require a well-planned Change Management approach and will only be achieved through understanding the new Standard and knowing how to bridge existing success with future challenges.

Learning Objectives:

  • The participant will be able to define the three main components of the PMI 7.0 new knowledge artifacts:

  1. The Project Management Standards
  2. the PMBOK Guide
  3. PMI Standards+.

  • Besides defining the components, the participant will be able to explain how they interact to provide a global view of project planning and deliverables.
  • The participant will be able to articulate the relationship between a value delivery system, project delivery principles, Performance domains, and Knowledge Areas,
  • The participant will be able to explain to critical stakeholders how the Stand supports multiple delivery methods (Predictive, Iterative, Incremental, and Agile) to support multiple project types across the enterprise.

Summary

This workshop will be a fantastic adventure into the future skills required for a Project Professional. The future holds a combination of acquiring new skills, refining existing skills, and implementing new ways to demonstrate value.  This session will have a practical discussion to drive this change and be a tool to facilitate growth.

Most importantly, this session will give you the tools and background to have a practical dialog in your organization about value and what is required to adopt the new Project Management models.
